Essential Selection: Mumdance on Rinse.FM
Mumdance is big business this year and deservedly so.
After a barrage of releases last year, he closed off 2013 with a stunning FACT Magazine mix and tip's from Oneman as One To Watch in 2014. Opening 2014 with a bang we've already had the release of 'Springtime' on Dj Haus's Unknown To The Unknown and 'Turbo Mitzi', his disorientating drop with Pinch, is lurking evilly round the corner ready to come out on Feburary 24th.
It's not just about releasing tracks though, Mumdance has an unquestionable love of music. From hardcore to grime, shoegaze to booty house; the passion for music can be heard in his productions and DJ sets. Take the reese in 'Legion', the ode to Eastwood & Oddz that is 'Kerplunk! Part.1' or the lush shoegaze of 'Demographics'. Each of these tracks highlight how much influence Mumdance's own musical listening can brandish on his productions, and that isn't to say the are unoriginal rather that their foundations have allowed the tracks to expand into greater things. Even as the driving force behind London club night Different Circles his eclecticism is is apparent with a line-up history that has included Lorca, Rabit, Esser and as of March 1st Marshall Jefferson.
But back to the mix. Aired at the end of January on Rinse.FM, it's two hours of face-melting bangers with too many highlights to mention. After opening up with some serious electronic architecture the mix launches into asphyxiating selection of tracks from Untold, Acre and Logos, and that's only the first hour. The second head across in a more colourful territory with tracks from JT the Goon, Groovestreet and collaborations with Rabit, Spyro and Novelist before culminating with a Metalheadz classic Doc Scott's Swarm.
